Administrator,
Kimberly Soots - Mrs. Soots attended Ball State University
from 1976 to 1982. During this time she received degrees in Education
and Sociology. She also obtained with the degrees, an endorsment in
Reading Instruction.
During the years following her graduation, Mrs Soots worked in the
Department of Special Education at Ball State University. While in
the department, she worked within the context of a demonstration classroom
for the hearing impaired. In this setting, parents, extended family
members as well as students from the university, and those desiring
a simillar program, visited to observe and participate in the instruction
process and teacher training. Mrs. Soots believes that her early work
which linked instruction for children and parents as well as teacher
training, prepared her to meet the needs of CCS families and faculty
members.
Mrs. Soots began her ministry at CCS in 1990 working with the board
of directors and family group to develop a plan to expand the school.
At that time there were about 57 students enrolled at CCS. Today,
God has blessed us with many more students and the best is still to
come!
Bookkeeping, Sheri Hickman - Mrs Hickman has been
with CCS since 1999. She earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting
from Indiana University. She is married to Dave Hickman. They have
three boys, Matthew, Micah and Josh and a daughter, Allie. She enjoys
spending time with her family, reading and crafts.
Administrative Assistant, Terri Widau - Mrs. Widau
has worked at CCS since 1998. While at CCS she has worked in many
different areas. Currently she is working as an Executive Assistant/IT
Director. She is married to Mike Widau and they have 2 children, Kristen
and Brice. "I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and
traveling."
Pre-Kindergarten, Maria Haber - Mrs. Haber began her CCS
career in 2005 as First Grade Aide. In 2006, she began teaching in
the Pre-Kindergarten classroom. She enjoys boating, kayaking and reading.
"I feel blessed to be at CCS and working with your children."
Kindergarten/Fifth Grade, Joan Frame - Mrs. Frame
has worked in education since 1984, 20 years at CCS. She earned a
Bachelors of Science from IUPUI. Mrs. Frame also has earned a Masters
of Education from Indiana Wesleyan. She is married to Dave and has
2 children & 5 grandchildren. She enjoys reading, spending time
with her 5 grandchildren & collecting lighthouses.
First Grade, Donna Girdley - Miss Girdley received a B.A.
in English from Tennessee Temple University and a B.A. in Elementary
Education from Louisana Baptist University. She has worked in education
since 1974. Miss Girdley enjoys reading, music and writing. God used
Isaiah 54:13 to lead Miss Girdley into Christian Education: "All
your children will be taught by the Lord and great will be the peace
of your nation."
Second Grade, Mary Beth Unger - Mrs. Unger received a Bachelor
of Science from Maranatha Baptist Bible College with a major in Bible
and minors in Christian Education and music. She studied elementary
mathematics at Indiana University Bloomington. She has worked in education
since 1981 and has been with CCS since 1998. She is married to Ed
Unger and they have 4 children, Eddie, David, Kenneth and Mark. "I
enjoy our four boys, piano, reading, studying the military and teaching
second grade in this great place.
Third Grade, Heather Jackson - Mrs. Jackson has worked in
Education since 2006. She began her career at CCS as a student teacher
in kindergarten and third grade. In October 2007, Mrs. Jackson became
a CCS Staff person teaching fourth grade. She is married to Dan and
they have two children, Cassity and Jessica who attend CCS.
Fourth Grade, Candace Yount - Mrs. Yount began teaching fourth
grade at CCS in 2008. She recently had her first child, Rebekah, in
October 2008.
Fifth Grade/Middle School Math/French, Heather Thomas - Mrs.
Thomas has worked in education since 2000 and has been at CCS since
2001. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
and French, She also has a Teaching Certification in Math.
Fifth Grade/Middle School Science, Tina Locker - Mrs. Locker
received her Bachelor of Science in Education - Consumer Science degree
from Miami University. She has 18 Master credit hours from Miami University
concentrating in Child and Family Studies. Mrs. Locker taught at Brookville
High School (OH) before taking time out to have her children. Mrs.
Locker has been married to her husband Walt for 20 years, has two
children, Megan and Ryan. Mrs. Locker was involved with Bible Study
Fellowship for 10 years with 7 of those in leadership. She loves to
cook, the outdoors, fishing, camping, and being involved with her
church.
Middle School History/Literature/Language, Tammy Root - Mrs
Root has worked in education since 1994. She earned a Bachelor of
Science from Ball State University. She is continuing education through
Indiana Wesleyan. "I love to read, run and travel. I also love
teaching Middle Schoolers!"
Music, Anthony Johnson - Mr. Johnson has worked in education
for 15 years at CCS since 1998. He received a B.S. in Music Education
from Ball State University with a minor in church music. Mr. Johnson
has taught private voice and piano since 1992. He enjoys writing and
playing Praise and Worship music. Other interests include landscape
design and spending time with his wife and children.
Physical Education/Aide - Natasha Middleton-
Bible, Aide, Diana King- Mrs. King has been at CCS since
1998 working as a Teacher's Aide in Kindergarten and as Librarian.
She began as Bible Teacher in 2003. She has worked with and taught
Jr./Sr. High Youth since 1989. She enjoys spending time with her family,
husband Kevin, their two boys, Kyle & Michael & daughter-in-law,
Sarah; decorating and trips to "Madison".
Administrative Asst. , Pat VanDuyn- Mrs. VanDuyn
began working at The Learning Center in the summer of 2007. She has
been with CCS for many years and started out as a Room Mom before
becoming an Aide. She has been married to Mike for 20 years and they
have 3 daughters. Her youngest daughter, Megan, graduated from CCS
in 2005. "I enjoy spending time with my family and friends."
Elementary Math Specialist - Rhonda Price - Mrs.
Price has worked in education since 1989 & at CCS since 1996.
She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and an A.A in Liberal Studies.
Most recently she has completed her Master's Degree in Elementary
Mathematics Education. Mrs. Price is married to Doug Price. The have
one daughter, Emily, a student at CCS. Mrs. Price enjoys reading and
sewing when she has time.
Educational Advisor, Dr. Jackie Schlichte-Dr. Schlichte
is a "friend of CCS". Dr. Schlichte taught at CCS for 14
years, before she taught at Northeastern High School. She received
her Doctorate in 2005 in Education with Reading Specialization and
Special Education and General Education Cognates. She is currently
employed at Earlham College as a Field Supervisor and Instructor.
One of the components of her job includes Outreach to the community
schools - a consulting ministry of Earlham's MAT Program.
Extended Care, Mindi Newton -Mrs. Newton has worked
at CCS since 2007 beginning as an aide in PK and Music. In 2008, she
began working as the afternoon and evening extended care lead person.
Mrs. Newton and her husband, Chad, have two children, Cherish and
Elijah. She enjoys Nascar and her family.
Recess/Fourth Grade Bible/PE Aide, Rodney Shelley
- Mr. Shelley began working for CCS in 2007. He is Pastor of Twin
Creek Church. Mr. Shelley is married to Kathy and they have three
children, Elijah, Levi, and Jenna, all attending CCS. Mr. Shelley's
hobbies include acting like a middle schooler and harrassment of the
staff! Joking aside, he is a joy to have in our building.
